Dear lovelies,
Conventional Substack wisdom (if Substack is even old enough to warrant the term) states that authors should put their best work behind a paywall to entice folks to become paying subscribers. Well, that seems silly to me. Yes, subscriptions are only five dollars a month, yes, I’m a small Substack operation over here at Our Bodies: Ourselves. You can be sure that the money from your subscriptions is going to support me as an artist. I’m not saying don’t become a paying subscriber. You can click on a button right here and pay $5 to do it. But I want my best work to be read by many, many people!
I guess I’m just saying, capitalism already takes a lot from us, let’s not have it be part of everything we write, maybe?
Okay, hedging done. At a recent writing retreat, I had a lot of fun responding to a prompt to write acrostic poems. There’s something freeing about not being at all a poet (I think poets are wizards, poetry is wizardry) and still giving it the ol’ college try.
So, as a treat for the folks that keep me in Canva subscriptions and donut holes, here are some acrostic poems that I had a lot of fun writing.
And, if you feel motivated to, you are more than welcome to join the paying subscribers in supporting my work. I’d be more than grateful if you did.
